CORRELATION OF GROUNDWATER CHEMICAL CONSTITUENT AND LANDFORM TYPE IN THE BATURAGUNG MOUNTAIN RANGE OF THE YOGYAKARTA SPECIAL PROVINCE CENTRAL JAVA INDONESIA

The aim of this research is to study the quality and distribution of groundwater in the Baturagung mountain area by mean of landform as a unit of analysis. That area is known as The Baturagung Range according to Bemmelen, 1948. That is an escarpment structure located in the northern part of southern mountain (Gunungsewu Plato) of Java Island. Administratively this area is belongs to Gunungkidul regency of The Yogyakarta Special Province. A survey method is used in this research includes field observations and measurements. Before field survey, false color infrared aerial photograph interpretation is made which aimed to recognize the landscape/landform unit well in advance. This was followed by laboratory analysis of groundwater samples.
A statistical test called T-test is applied to detect groundwater quality differences between the two types of landform units.
The research result shows that the study area is divided into fourteen of landform units based on its topography, litology, and geomorphological processes. Those landform units are: 1) moderately dissected hill (D1O), 2) colluvium (D14O), 3) fluvial terrace (F14O), 4) upper slope (D8O), 5) foot slope (D7O), all in the Oyo Formation; 6) upper slope (D8Ng), 7) foot slope (D7Ng) in the Nglanggran formation, 
foot slope (D7Sb), 9) colluvium (D14Sb), 10) severe dissected hill (D1Sb) in the Sambipitu Formation; 11) colluvium (D14Sm) , 12) moderately dissected hill (D1Sm), 13) severe dissected mountain (D2Sm) in the Semilir Formation, and 14) severe dissected mountain (D2Kb) in the Kebo Butak Formation.
Landform unit is use in order to zoning of groundwater depth distribution and its electric conductivity, and the research area is divided into seven zones. However, zoning groundwater qualities by landform unit as a unit analysis can not be use fully. Based on the combination of landform unit and its characteristics, the research area is divided into seven hydro-morphological unit, i.e.: 1) D14, D80, D14Sb, 2) D10, D70, 3) D7Sb, D1 Sb, 4) D7Ng, 5)F14O, 6) D8Ng, and 7) D14Sm.

Senin, 22 Juni 2009 Laboratorium Geografi FMIPA Universitas Negeri Malang menerima kunjungan dari SMA Unggulan BPPT Darus Sholah Jember. Peserta acara ini 141 siswa dan 35 guru pendamping.
Laboraorium SIG Jurusan Geografi FMIPA Universitas Negeri Malang membuka kembali pendaftaran pelatihan SIG gelombang II untuk umum. Pelatihan akan diadakan pada minggu pertama bulan Juli 2009 selama 4 hari dan jumlah jam materi 24. Setiap peserta akan mendapatkan modul dan sertifikat pelatihan.

Senin, 23 April 2009 bertempat di aula FMIPA telah dilaksanakan “FORSIGO” Forum Komunikasi Mahasiswa Geografi dengan mengangkat tema utama “Perpindahan Jurusan Pendidikan Geografi ke FIS”.
Hadir pada pertemuan tersebut Rektor UM Prof.Dr. Suparno, PD I FMIPA, PD II FMIPA, PD III FMIPA, Pejabat Geografi, Dosen dan staf Jurusan Geografi
IGI adalah organisasi profesi yang anggotanya terdiri dari Sarjana Geografi, Guru Geografi dan masyarakat umum Pemerhati Geografi.
Cara menjadi anggota IGI adalah dengan mendaftarkan diri ke IGI wilayah atau ke IGI Pusat.
